[Also in Division C5] Oxidative stability of polyphenyl thioethers is improved by contacting the thioethers in liquid phase with a contacting agent which is an alkali metal or an oxygen containing gas. The preferred metals are sodium and potassium and the temperature at which the process is carried out varies from 25-350‹ C.
