In a diode rectifier circuit comprising a number of diode bridges connected in series, the A.C. to each is provided by a transformer secondary 9, 10, 11 connected in series with a thyristor control circuit 22. The inner pairs of diodes, e.g. 24a, 24b, 24<SP>1</SP>a, 24<SP>1</SP>b are joined by an impedance 29.
