Abstract

1,209,056. Pyrazine tetracarboxylic dianhydride. MONSANTO CO. 24 Nov., 1967 28 Nov., 1966], No. 53658/67. Heading C2C. 2,3,5,6-Pyrazine tetracarboxylic anhydride is prepared by mixing 2,3,5,6-pyrazine tetracarboxylic acid with a dehydrating agent and maintaining the temperature of the resulting mixture below 139‹ C. and below the boiling point of the dehydrating agent. The temperature is preferable maintained below 100‹ C. and more preferably between ambient and 80‹ C. Dehydrating agents may be acetic anhydride, propionic anhydride, acetyl chloride or phosphorus pentoxide.
