1,208,984. Pneumatic tyres. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. 19 Jan., 1968, No. 3040/68. Heading B7C. A pneumatic tyre comprises two carcase plies, each carcase ply comprising an inner portion 5 the cords of which are arranged at 90 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane and an outer portion 6 the cords of which are arranged at 90 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane in the sidewall region of the tyre and are angled off in the tread region of the tyre, the outer portion of one ply overlying the outer portion of the other ply in the tread region. The cords in the outer portions of the plies in the tread region may be arranged at opposite angles with respect to the mid-circumferential plane. The cords of the inner portions of the plies may be arranged so as to overlap in the tread region of the tyre and the cords of the outer portions may be arranged so as to extend from one sidewall region into the other (Fig. 3 not shown). In another embodiment, the cords of the outer portions overlie one another in the tread region at the same angle with respect to the mid-circumferential plane and a breaker strip is arranged above the outer portions with its cords cross-laid with respect to the cords of the outer portions (Fig. 4, not shown).
