[Also in Division C3] Deodourizing compositions reactive with water to generate and deliver a halogenous deodourizing gas into air space above a body of water or with said compositions float, comprise (1) a solid source of available chlorine or bromine, (2) a solid gas-generating source non-reactive with (1) but reactive with water to generate gas and (3) a solid polymer of an aliphatic C 2-5 olefin. The polyolefin may be pulverulent or fibrous polyethylene, polypropylene or polybutadiene. The gas-generating source may be an alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonate in admixture with a solid acid or acid salt. The halogen source may be a N-halo compound or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hypochlorite. Compositions may also contain alkali metal chlorides, chlorates and nitrates; dessicants, e.g. calcium sulphate, alumina and silica gel; lubricants and binders, e.g. carboxy methyl-, hydroxyethyl- and carboxymethyl-hydroxyethyl-cellulose, methyl vinyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymers, polyethylene glycols, chlorinated polyethylene, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, acacia gum, agar, stearic acid and metal stearates, fillers and pigments, e.g. silica, chromium oxide and phthalocyanine blue; and perfumes optionally adsorbed on clays. They may be in powder, granular or tablet form, and many examples are given of compositions and tablets suitable for addition to water closets and comprising as ingredients (1) calcium hypochlorite, lithium hypochlorite, sodium or potassium dichloroisocyanurate, dichloroisocyanuric acid, trichloroisocyanuric acid, tetrachloroglycoluril, N-chlorosuccinimide, N- bromo succinimide, trichlorornelamine, chloramine-T, 1, 3-dichloro-5, 5-dimethylhydantoin, N, N'-dichloro benzoylene urea, dichloramine- T, magnesium and barium hypochlorites and chlorinated trisodium phosphate; (2) sodium bicarbonate and citric or tartaric acid or ammoniated phosphorus pentoxdde; (3) polyethylene; and additional ingredients such as silica, calcium sulphate, sodium chloride, carboxymethyl-hydroxy-ethyl-cellulose, and sodium and lithium stearates.
