Abstract

1,208,742. Reciprocating pumps. FLUID TRANSFER Ltd. Nov.14, 1968 [Nov.24, 1967], No.53543/67. Heading F1A. In a flexible chamber pump comprising pumping chambers 43 and auxiliary chambers 44 separated by an annular compression plate 31 and inner 34 and 32 and outer 37 and 38 concentric elastomeric rings, defining the pumping chamber, an operating fluid supplied to the chambers 44 acts on plates 31 to compress the rings. The pumping chambers are situated in a housing comprising sections 12 formed of concentric tubes 24 and 26 between end walls 10 and 11, the inner rings 34 and 32 being held by a flange 27 a tube 26, a retaining ring 41, and a ring 33 on the plate 31, and the outer rings 37, 38 by a flange 25 on tube 24, ring 41, and plate 31; the sections are separated by annular cover plates 28. The auxiliary chambers are formed in the gap between the compression plate and cover plate, and between the rings and tubes, and are attached via a bore 45 to a pipe 46 connected via a control valve 47 to a fluid source 48, and exhaust 49. The valve 47 is operated by a switch 50 actuated by contacts 51 and 52 on a slidable rod 53 attached to a compression plate, actuation of the switch by contact 51 causes fluid to enter the chambers 44 and depress the plate 31 and rings. At the end of the delivery stroke contact 52 causes the auxiliary chambers to exhaust and the rings and plate return. Inlet and exhaust valves are provided in bores in the end wall 10, and a disc 20 respectively.
