Abstract

1,208,105. Card reader. GENERAL ELECTRIC and ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANIES Ltd. 16 Nov., 1967 [30 Nov., 1966], No. 53592/66. Heading G4M. [Also in Division H4] A plurality of spring wires 18 normally bear against a common spring wire 21 and have portions 20, Fig. 4, which, in operation, bear against a perforated card 1, those wires 18 which do not sense holes being separated from wire 21, and the extent of this separation is maintained constant, irrespective of the thickness of card 1, by means of an insulating member 22 on which the wires 18, 21 rest. The card is inserted manually and is ejected by a solenoid actuated pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 13-17 driving sprocket wheels 8. The reader is used as part of an automatic telephone dialler, each row of the card having one out of ten positions perforated, though a combination code may be used, an additional position in each row being used to interrupt ejection of the card if a pause in the transmission of digits is required.
