Abstract
1,207,822. Steam reheaters. TRANSELEKTRO MAGYAR VILLAMOSSAGI KULKERESKEDELMI VALLALAT. 26 Oct., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 48749/67. Heading F4A. [Also in Division F1] A steam turbine interstage steam reheating system comprises means for passing a heating metal vapour through a heat exchanger to effect reheating of the steam and condensation of the vapour. The reheating system includes finned heat exchangers 5 positioned in the steam path between the turbine stages 2, or within the turbine casings, and supplied with mercury vapour through conduit 6 from an evaporator 1 heated by the steam boiler flue gases. In reheating the steam, the mercury vapour condenses and is pumped back to the evaporator 1. To eliminate the need for interstage intercept valves, an emergency mercury condenser 9 is provided. During normal running a valve 10 is closed so that condenser 9 fills with liquid mercury. When emergency shut-down of the turbine is required, valve 10 is opened so that the cold mercury runs from condenser 9 into heat exchangers 5 and starts evaporating, thus cooling the interstage steam and accelerating the stopping of the turbine. Any mercury vapour still being produced in the evaporator 1 is condensed in the condenser 9. Water contained in a drum 16 is used as the cooling medium in the condenser, a relief valve 15 preventing excessive steam pressure in the drum.
