Abstract

120,766. Rumble, H. H. Nov. 20, 1917. Retaining-walls or quay walls have a series of cavities b projecting substantially horizontally inward from the rear face, into which cavities the material at the back of the wall is released to take up its natural or other slope. The cavities preferably extend beyond the limits to which the material would reach in its natural slope. The cavities shown are of dovetail form in cross-section. In a modification, the cavities are in the form of rectangular prisms.
