Abstract
1,207,256. Hydrogenating hydrocarbon oils. CITIES SERVICE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. 16 Dec., 1968 [19 Dec., 1967], No. 59628/68. Heading C5E. In a process for hydrogenating heavy hydrocarbon oil under high pressure and temperature to produce a gas stream and a high boiling liquid hydrocarbon stream at high pressure and temperature containing polymerizable constituents, polymerization is reduced by reducing the pressure of the liquid stream to a pressure of up to about 200 p.s.i.g., and before, during or immediately after the reduction of pressure, contacting the stream with a cool liquid hydrocarbon stream to reduce the temperature of the hot stream to not more than about 650‹ F., and preferably about 550‹ F. The cool stream may be a light cycle oil condensed from the gas stream, and may be divided into two streams, either or both of which may be delivered to the hot stream, one of the cool streams being first used to preheat the feedstock. The mixed hot and cool streams, after further cooling, may be mixed with the condensed effluent stream from the hydrogenation zone.
