Abstract
1,205,901. Arc-rupturing in switches. M. GERIN. 5 Feb., 1969 [9 Feb., 1968], No. 6125/69. Heading H1N. In an arc-chute having parallel insulating plates 10, 12, 14, some or all of which are are each straddled by a conductive member 20 22, 30 having two wings interconnected by a web portion, the web portions being staggered at different levels with respect to the initial position of the arc, the plates are so arranged in a recurrent pattern that no two plates 12 having the web portions of their conductive members 22 at the same level enclose a plate 10 having the web portion of its conductive member 20 at a lower level, i.e. nearer the initial arc position. This is stated to avoid perforation of the plates 10 by the arc. In one arrangement a third type of plate 14 with a conductive member 30 at a higher level is used, the sequence of the plates being as shown or in the sequence 10, 12, 14, Fig. 7 (not shown). In a further arrangement, Fig. 6 (not shown), a slotted plate without a conductive member is used in place of the plate 14.
