[Also in Division G1] A photomultiplier has between its photocathode and secondary emission portion a diaphragm with an annular aperture and a control electrode, the control signal to which enables a set of circular interference fringes to be scanned by the photomultiplier with a concentric annular field of view having a continuously varying radius. The fringes are scanned once in a period of the order of 100 nanoseconds.
