Abstract

1,205,376. Selective printing. H. G. CARLSEN, and E. CARLSEN. 6 Feb., 1969 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 6545/69. Heading B6F. A thermoprinting device comprises printing elements in the form of electrical resistors, 1-8, Fig. 5 or 42, Fig. 10, consisting of film deposits on a plurality of layers the printing element resistor layers being separated by insulating films and together mounted on the surface of an electrically insulating fuse member 10. The characters may be made up of a series of separate elements and since a number of layers may be employed the elements may overlap one another to result in a character being formed without gaps in its configuration. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 10, the characters are formed of whole characters 42, separate characters being arranged on separate superposed layers with insulating layers 43 therebetween. The fuse members are similar to those described in Specification 1,190,709, and are arranged so that printing may occur simultaneously m a single row or in a plurality of rows. The pressing of the web (22) against the heated elements, and the feeding of the web is also described in the earlier patent.
