Abstract
1,203,676. Cathode-ray tubes. COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE FRANCAISE DES TUBES ELECTRONIQUES S.A. 3 May, 1968 [3 May, 1967; 27 March, 1968], No. 21086/68. Heading H1D. An anti-implosion device for a cathode-ray tube comprises four channel-section steel members 10, 11 surrounding the rim of the tube with an interposed layer of an epoxy resin, and four corner members 9 of similar section adapted to fit into the members 10 and 11 and secured to them at their ends whilst all the members are in position round the tube and heated, so that the members are tensioned when they contract on cooling. Preferably the members are heated electrically by connecting current sources to the centres of the four sides. The corner members 9 may be joined to the members 10 and 11 by crimping the flanged edges (Fig. 4, not shown) or by gluing with an epoxy resin. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), the corner members (9a) are adjacent the tube, and the generally straight members (10a, 11a) fit inside them. Mounting brackets may be welded to the protection device.
