A fluid pump comprises a conduit and two elements operated to bring about periodic variations in the effective cross-section of the conduit at regions spaced apart along the conduit, the operation of the elements being phased to cause fluid to flow along the conduit in one direction the elements may be mechanically operated through gearing or by means of solenoids. It is stated that the conduit need not be completely closed and that the pump will be self priming and act as a vacuum pump.
