Abstract

1,203,340. Battery system. D. C. LEEMING. 28 July, 1969 [30 July, 1968], No. 36378/68. Heading A1M. [Also in Division B8] A battery cage system for poultry comprises rows of cages 10 arranged one upon the other. A conveyer belt 13 running beneath a row of cages removes the droppings. The droppings are removed from the belt by scrapers 22, and projections 23 on top of the underlying row of cages. The belt is driven by drive roller 25, and held against the drive roller by pinch roller 27. Running from the same axes as rollers 25 and 27 respectively, drive roller 26 and pinch roller 28 co-operate to drive a second conveyer belt 12, which supplies food to the cages from hopper 11 and removes eggs from the cages to egg collecting tray 15. The drive rollers for each row are interconnected with each other and an electric motor by a chain drive.
