Abstract
1,203,268. Sequestered metal ions. HOOKER CHEMICAL CORP. 29 Nov., 1967 [29 Nov., 1966], No. 54407/67. Headings C1A and C1C. Metal ions in solution are sequestered using compounds of the formula wherein R is a C 1 -C 3 alkylene group and Z and Z<SP>1</SP> are OH, C 1 -C 3 alkyl or C 1 -C 3 alkanol groups. Such sequestrantsincludetris-(hydroxymethyl)phosphine oxide, bis-(hydroxymethyl) phosphinic acid and bis-(hydroxymethyl) phosphine oxide. Metal ions mentioned include those of Al, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni, Sn and the rare earth metals. The sequestrants are especially useful for sequestration of Fe<SP>3+</SP> at pH values of 7-14. The compounds may also be used to stabilize H 2 O 2 solutions. Specification 941,495 referred to.
