Abstract

1,203,023. Transferring freight containers to and from vehicles. ABELSON MOTORS Ltd. 1 Sept., 1967 [3 June, 1966; 13 July, 1966], Nos. 24914/66 and 31445/66. Heading B8Q. A container 28 is off-loaded from a vehicle by a pair of lifting appliances 10 acting between the vehicle and the container to raise the latter preparatory to the lowering of the legs 29 of the container. Each lifting appliance 10 comprises a pair of inflatable bellows 17 mounted in a framework 11, 12 below a pivoted lifting plate 13, the outer end of which mounts a roller 24 for engagement with the underside of the container. Air for the bellows is supplied through pipes 22 which include a height-limit switch controlled by the plate 13. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) only one such lifting appliance is used, to first raise one end of the container for the setting down of the legs 29 and then after being slid along the vehicle chassis to repeat the operation at the other end of the container. In a further embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown), the bellows are replaced by hydraulic rams (34).
