Abstract

1,202,905. Embossing. DEKORPLATTENWERK HIRSCHHORN ANDRE & GERNANDT. 31 Aug., 1967, No. 39888/67. Heading B6J. Sheets of fibre plastics materials are embossed by a die manufactured from a laminated sheet, softened by heating, of a fibrous material and a curable but non-hardened synthetic resin. According to the invention a negative impression is taken from the original using a multi-layer material consisting of layers of paper impregnated with a curable but uncured resin, 5 to 6 layers normally being sufficient for preparing the laminate. The original is then pressed under heat into the resin-impregnated laminate which has been softened by heating. Separating layers, of a kind known per se, e.g. separating paper or metal foil or powered material, may be interposed between the original and the resinimpregnated laminate. The duration and intensity of heating are adjusted in such a way that, after the laminate has been formed, the resin hardens. The original is then separated from the matrix thus produced. The matrix is surprisingly firm, to such an extent that a large number of positive impressions can be produced on suitable laminates, e.g. of layers of paper impregnated with a curable synthetic resin. These impressions are also made under the influence of heat, so that the sheet material to be decorated softens to an adequate extent, is provided with the relief pattern, and then hardened.
