Abstract

1,202,341. Treating microcapsules. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. 13 Feb., 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 7823/69. Heading B8C. Microcapsules having walls of hydrophilic polymeric material which have been formed by concervation are dispersed in an agitated aqueous solution of at least one sulphate, citrate, tartrate, acetate or chloride of ammonium and/or an alkali metal whereby the capsules walls are shrunk to make drying easier. The microcapsules may also be treated with a cross-linking agent to harden and insolubilize the walls if desired. As capsule wall materials, reference is made to gelatin, gum arabic, carrageenan, hydrolysed poly (ethylene co-maleic anhydride) and hydrolysed poly (vinyl-methyl ether co-maleic anhydride). The capsule cores may be any solid or liquid which is water-insoluble.
