Abstract

120,187. Pickersgill, W., Pitt, J. H., and Haigh, F. July 18, 1918. Trolly heads; devices for retaining and replacing collectors.-In a trolly head for electric traction, guide-forks p, Fig. 1, are mounted on the spindle d of the pulley o, and are connected by links n to a sleeve i, mounted in the upper end of the hollow support a, whereby, when the pulley leaves the conductor, the upward movement of the pulley due to the spring g causes the guides p to move into the position shown in broken lines. The sleeve i is free to swing about a vertical axis with the trolly wheel. Fig. 4 shows a modified construction in which contact is kept with the conductor by means of a block r of carbon or other conducting material mounted between the guides. The guides may be dispensed with and the block r used by itself. Plates t act to take the current when passing frogs or at turnings, at which places the block r rides clear. Specification 111,396 is referred to.
