Abstract

1,201,828. Gyroscopic apparatus. SINGERGENERAL PRECISION Inc. Sept.17, 1968, No.44117/68. Headings G1C and G1N. A two axis gyroscope is provided with two pairs of combined pick-off and torquer units, one of which is shown in Fig.3, disposed symetrically along axes orthogonal to each other and to the gyrospin axis and co-operating with a ring of ferromagnetic material on a rotating with the rotor, each of the units comprising a magnetic core 34 which is bifurcated at one end to form arms 36, 38 with polefaces 40, 42 which in use are disposed adjacent the ferromagnetic ring, each of the bifurcated arms 36, 38 having pick-off coils 48, 50 theron and the non-bifurcated portion of the core 34 supporting a pair of torquer coils 52, 54. The coils 48, 50 are connected in series and are disposed in one arm of an A.C. bridge circuit;an adjacent arm of which is constituted by the coils 48, 50 of the other pick-off unit of one pair disposed along one of the two orthogonal sensory axes. Angular displacement between the rotor and the casing carrying the pick-off and torquer units unbalances the bridge circuit and the inbalance signal after amplification and demodulation is fed to the torquer coils 54 of the other pair of units disposed along the other of the two sensory axes. The torques produced by the pair of coils 54 are of opposite sense so as to return the rotor to a wall position with respect to the casing. The coils 52 of each pair of units are connected in series with a D.C. source and further trimming coils (not shown) may be provided for each unit if necessary. Thus in each case precession of the rotor about one of the two orthogonal sensing axes is sensed by the coils 48, 50 of one pair of combined pick-off and torquer units connected by signals supplied to the torquer coils 54 of the other pair of units.
