Abstract

1,201,581. Pipe joints. THERMO-PLASTICS Ltd. 1 April, 1969 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 3705/68. Heading F2G. A joint for plastics pipes 1, 2, includes a sleeve 3, which may be integral with one of the pipes, into which the adjacent extremities of the pipes are inserted, the pipes being maintained in spaced relationship by a disintegratable washer 5 which is dissolved or broken up by the liquid flowing through the joint to thereby allow a space for the thermal expansion of the pipes. The washer 5 is made of lightly bonded paper, hydroxymethyl cellulose or sodium alginate but preferably paper washers are made by slicing a tube formed from spirally wound chipboard in which the layers are secured together by a dextrine-based water soluble glue. An 0-ring 4 may be housed in a groove in the sleeve.
