Abstract
120,156. Winters, A. M. Jan. 24, 1918. Fatty oils, extracting by solvents. Oil-bearing material such as offal or crushed seeds, beans, nuts, &c., passes from a hopper a, through one or more extracting-chambers b provided with conveying-worms c, wherein it is treated with solvents, such as benzine, supplied through the perforated shafts i of the worms or through perforations in the upper parts of the chambers covered by a jacket. As illustrated, solvent is supplied to the first two of the chambers but not to the third. The solvent passes from the chambers through removable sieves d and by pipes l into a chamber m containing inclined baffles o and sieves n and heated by steam from a pipe p. The solvent vapours are led to a condenser s, and the condensed solvent is returned to the extracting- chambers, water being separated in a gravity separator u. The oil is removed by pipe r. The material, after passing through the extracting- chambers, falls down a shoot v into a chamber w heated by steam from a pipe z and containing indined grids or sieves. The solvent is removed as vapour and is returned to the extracting-chambers by way of condenser s' and water-separator u<1>. Air, laden with solvent vapours from various parts of the apparatus, is passed through a washer 4 to separate the solvent.
