Abstract

Walls; reinforced-concrete beams; roofs. - Dwelling- houses, cottages, sheds, &c. are formed of concrete slabs and grooved posts and beams reinforced by mattings of bamboo, reed, willow, or like canes arranged in combined horizontal and vertical layers fcr beams, lintels, &c , Fig. 3, and in vertical intersecting layers for posts, Figs. 4 and 5. The skeleton frameworks have contours similar to those of the beams and posts. The slabs are reinforced by a single layer of reed matting. The concrete preferably consists of cement and lapilli. The posts are grooved to receive the slabs, and in combination with beams E and sills, they form the door and window openings. The tops of the posts are connected bv tie beams K, Fig. 8, which are tongued and grooved to engage the roof trusses and walls respectively.
