Abstract

[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for hauling lumber from a felling spot to a road for truck transport of the lumber comprises a winch unit 17, Fig. 2, suspended from and manually movable along a cable 13 suspended from trees on alternate sides of the road, by chain braces 15, the unit 17 carrying a radio-controlled motor for driving a winding drum 19 for a hauling wire 37. The unit 17 is connected to carriage wheels 33, 35 movable along the cable 13 by a vertical rod 40, swivel joint 42, shackle 44, hook 38 and a carriage yoke 27, 29, 31, whereby the unit 17 can rotate about a vertical axis. During hauling of lumber the unit 17 is connected by an anchor chain or stay 39 to a tree so as to extend from the cable 13 on the side opposite to that from which the wire 37 extends. The cable 13 passes through spring hooks 16 on the braces 15 and is tensioned from one end. The carriage can be shifted from one side to the other of a hook 16 by pivoting the yoke about one wheel 33, 35 at a time, by means of a hand lever 36.
