Abstract
1,200,532. Rubbery polymer-non-agglomerating polymer compositions. PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PECHINEY-SAINT-GOBAIN. 26 Feb., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967], No. 9250/68. Heading C3P. A composition having an apparent density of 0À3 to 0À65 g./c.c. comprising a rubbery polymer and a non-agglomerating polymer is obtained by coagulating a latex of the rubbery polymer and mixing the coagulate with a latex of the non- agglomerating polymer, under agitation, followed by separating, washing and drying the product. The non-agglomerating polymer is defined as having a second-order transition temperature of at least 0‹ C. and an elasticity modulus of at least 1000 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>. A wide variety of such polymers derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers is described. The rubbery polymers may be derived from conjugated dienes, isobutene, ethylene-propylene, acrylates and methacrylates or may be organic polysulphides, silicone rubbers, polyalkylene oxides or polyurethanes. The usual techniques for coagulation such as adding salt or acid solutions may be employed. The examples relate to the use of, as rubbery polymers, butadiene-acrylonitrile, butadiene-styrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene-divinyl benzene and 2-ethylhexylacrylatedivinylbenzene copolymers, and, as non-agglomerating polymers, polymethylmethacrylate, styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer, polystyrene and polyvinyl-chloride. The resulting compositions may be mixed with other polymers, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, and also glycerol monostearate and an organotin stabilizer.
