Abstract

1,200,220. Germicides; dentifrices. UNILEVER Ltd. 4 Dec., 1967 [7 Dec., 1966], No. 55044/ 67. Headings A5B and A5E. A toothpaste, tooth powder or mouthwash comprises particles of a water-insoluble synthetic resin, inorganic abrasive or protein fibre having an average diameter of from 1-50 microns, which particles have been pretreated with a substantially water-insoluble germicide whereby the germicide is adsorbed on the particles. Germicidal compositions comprise particles of a water-insoluble synthetic resin, inorganic abrasive or protein fibre having an average diameter of from 1-50 microns and having a substantially water-insoluble solid organic germicide adsorbed thereon, the weight of the particles relative to the weight of the germicide being at least 5:1. Suitable germicides specified are hexachlorophene, halogenated salicylanilides (e.g. tribromosalicylanilide), halogenated carbanilides and tyrothricin.
