Abstract
1,199,708. Coating apparatus. SPETSIALIZIROVANNY STROITELNO-MONTAZHNY TREST " KIEVPODZEMDORSTROI ", 10 March, 1969, No. 12442/69. Heading B2L. Coating apparatus comprises a hollow cylinder 7 rotatable about its longitudinal axis and formed with circumferential apertures 8, whereby a coating medium can be passed through the latter on to an article being passed through the cylinder. As described, the apparatus is adapted to coat the exterior of pipes, and comprises a track supporting two carriages located one at each end of the rotary cylinder. In use, one carriage is rotated from the cylinder, a pipe is scoured at one end to damping means which extend from the carriage, the latter is advanced to position the other end of the pipe within the cylinder, and said other end is secured to clamping means extending from the other carriages. The carriages are then driven to move the pipe progressively through the cylinder, and heated bitumen is allowed to flow from a hopper located above the cylinder through the apertures formed therein and on to the pipe. A tape, such as polyvinyl chloride, is wound on to the coated surface of the pipe from a tape-carrying spool which is secured to the cylinder and rotates therewith.
