Abstract
1,199,590. Tubular heat exchangers. E. I. DU PONT DE NBMOURS & CO. 25 April, 1968 [28 April, 1967], No. 19714/68. Heading F4S. A heat exchanger comprises a casing 10 containing a first fluid at one temperature in which is immersed a bundle 20 of thin-walled, flexible, tubes T, made of an organic polymeric composition such as a copolymer of tetrafluorethylene and hexafluoropropylene; a second fluid at a different temperature being circulated through the tubes in heat exchange with the first fluid, and the tube arrangement comprising a flexible braided bundle 20 made up of interlaced layers of the tubes T. Preferably the tube bundle consists of interlaced layers in the form of hollow sleeves of graduated sizes positioned concentrically one within the other as shown in Fig. 6. A rigid reinforcing member consisting of a perforated tube may extend through the tube bundle, the first fluid being circulated through this tube and hence via the perforations, over the tubes. In another arrangement, in which the tube bundle extends from end to end of a surrounding casing (101, Fig. 2) a rigid distributing member (401) for the first fluid may extend transversely into the tube bundle. The tubes are connected at each end to tube plates and preferred dimensions for the tubes and brading are given.
