1,199,488. Artificial teeth. G. L. E. R. FEROUMONT and D. I. GREGOROVIC. 25 Oct., 1967, No. 48392/67. Heading A5R. A denture has a suction recess longitudinally of the gum receiving portion, the recess being narrower in the region of the canine and incisor teeth than opposite the molars, and a one-way valve located between the recess and the exterior of the denture for permitting evacuation of the suction recess as the wearer sucks or inhales the valve comprising an outer rigid ring 1, a removable temporary upper cover 2 and a lower cover 3, a valve seat 11 for a valve plate 12 faced with a seal 10 of gold leaf or the material known by the Trade Mark 'Teflon' a stopper 15 secured to the valve plate 12 for preventing ingress of food particles into the valve and a spring 14 of gold, platinium or stainless steel which urges the valve plate and the stopper together into closed position. In making the denture, the valve is embedded in a wax model of the denture with the temporary cover 2 exposed, the wax model is cast in plaster and melted out leaving the valve attached to the plaster mould so formed, a plate (16, 17 Figure. 5) in the shape of the suction recess is positioned in the mould and the mould is filled with the material of the finished denture. After the material has set, the mould is removed and the temporary cover 2 is detached. The lower valve cover 3 is centrally perforated by drilling or milling from the suction recess to provide communication between the valve and the suction recess.
