Abstract
1,199,229. Drying apparatus. MIDLANDROSS CORP. 24 Sept., 1968 [23 Oct., 1967], No. 45360/68. Heading F4G. In an apparatus for drying a paper web 14 trained about drying rolls 10, 11, 12, the movement of air into the pockets 17 is reduced by air foil of baffle assemblies 20, the foils of which can be swung away from their position adjacent the web. In Fig. 2, the foil 21 (e.g. of flexible or rigid synthetic plastics or metal) is adjustably mounted on box 22 which is mounted on rotatable shaft 23 such that the foil 21 may be swung away from its position adjacent the web. In another embodiment the foil is made up of sections each section being supported on a tube, the tubes being partly rotatable about a common inner tube. The sections can be moved together or separately. In another embodiment the foil is mounted on a hinge and held in its operative position by a spring.
