Abstract

1,199,088. Electromagnetic actuators. STEARNS ELECTRIC CORP. 7 Nov., 1968 [2 May, 1968], No. 52885/68. Heading H1P. An electromagnetic actuator, having a frame and an armature biased towards a retracted position, is provided with a first cushion supported on the frame and disposed in the path of movement of the armature to its retracted position and a second cushion arrangement supporting the frame on a base member. As shown, Fig. 2, a laminated frame 6 is supported on a base-plate 26 by means of resilient strips 18, 20 and is provided with a coil 30 within which slides a T-shaped plunger 36. Arms 44, 46 connected to the sides of the frame support resilient pads 52, 54 above the head of the plunger, which is shown in its attracted position and is biased towards the raised position by a spring 40. When the coil 30 is de-energized spring 40 drives the plunger 36 upwards so that it comes to rest against pads 52, 54 which cushion the impact. The resilient mounting of the frame on the base-plate provides further cushioning.
