Abstract

1,198,732. Laminating apparatus. JOHN ROBERTS & SONS (LANGCLIFFE) Ltd. 3 April, 1969 [19 April, 1968], No. 18645/68. Heading B5N. In the production of composite sheets a continuous sheet of paper or paper board 1 is fed through rollers a to slitting knives A and a plurality of strips 2 thus formed are passed through rollers a<SP>1</SP> and between the nip of optionally heated fluted or toothed bands B which impart thereto a corrugated contour and the sinuous strips 3 are then turned through 90 degrees about their longitudinal axes by guides 6 passed edgewise between belts c to which a thermosetting adhesive is applied by rollers c<SP>1</SP> from reservoirs c<SP>2</SP> so that adhesive is applied to their edges and passed between rollers d over each of which a sheet 4 of paper or paper board is drawn to form a composite material which is drawn by endless belts D through heated chamber D<SP>1</SP> to cure or set the adhesive and fed to cutting machine D<SP>2</SP> to cut it into sheets. The composite material 5 may be coated with adhesive to receive a wood or other veneer or laminate forming the surface of a door or other article.
