1,197,558. Acrylic acid purification. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 28 March, 1969, No. 16269/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] Acrylic acid is purified by distilling inhibited acid through a copper packing, recovering the distillate in water below 20‹ C., and contacting the aqueous solution with a resin such as an ion-exchange or chelating resin to separate the copper ions. Sulphonic acid cation exchange resin is used in an example.
