Abstract
1,197,053. Pigmenting polymers. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 7 Sept., 1967 [22 Sept., 1966], No. 42369/66. Headings C3P and C3R. [Also in Divisions C4-5] Pigment compositions are prepared by admixing an aqueous mass of a pigment and an emulsion or solution of a carrier for the pigment selected from polyolefins, vinyl chloride polymers, polyethylene oxide derivatives, rosin and rosin derivatives, to form an unagglomerated mixture and spray drying the mixture. The carrier may be polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride; rosin or hydrogenated rosin or esters thereof; or a condensate of ethylene oxide with an alcohol, alkylphenol, acid or alkylamine. Many examples are given in which dispersions of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, dodecanol/ ethylene oxide condensate, oleyl alcohol/cetyl alcohol/ethylene oxide condensate and morpholine salt of wood rosin are mixed with aqueous masses of copper phthalocyanine, chlorinated copper phthalocyanine or a red pigment and the products spray-dried. The resulting pigment compositions are incorporated in compositions comprising polyethylene; polyethylene and titanium dioxide; and polyvinyl chloride, white lead, titanium dioxide and dioctyl phthalate.
