Abstract
1,197,002. Connecting rods; crossheads. W. E. SALZMANN. 30 April, 1968 [1 May, 1967; 31 Dec., 1967; 14 March, 1968], No. 20340/68. Heading F2T. [Also in Division F1] In a reciprocating piston machine, the connecting rod is inclined and is connected to the drive shaft by means of a spherical joint. The connecting rod may be connected directly to the piston by means of an inclined gudgeon pin or a spherical joint, or it may be connected to an inclined crosshead pin. The lower end of the connecting rod may be connected to a crankshaft or eccentric shaft and the upper end connected to a piston providing a self-adjustable compression ratio. A V-engine, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), consists of side-by-side connecting rods connected to discs (30), (31), the pistons being shaped to pass close to one another at lower dead centre. Guiding ramps or cams (25), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be used with the spherical joint (22) to prevent undesirable displacement of the connecting rod (18).
