[Also in Division B3] In a brush making machine the work blanks 2, 4 are located under the drilling and filling heads 1, 3 by workholders 5, mounted in a frame, which can be swivelled in the longitudinal and transverse directions so as to present the blanks to the tools in step by step fashion at varying angles, for each operation. A similar blank 63 acting as a model is carried by a work holder 53, which is swivelled in the same manner, and co-operates with a plunger 64 to provide for moving the workholders 5 vertically during the operations on the blanks, so as to maintain a constant depth of drilling and filling. In operation, an electric motor 122 drives a shaft 114, in a box 37 which contains a plate connected to rods 36, 38, the plate having the array of holes required in the brushes, and a co-operating pin. The model holder 53 is sequentially swivelled in the longitudinal direction by rod 38, and lever 41, which pivots about a pin 60, and in the transverse direction by rod 36, lever 31, rod 29, lever 46, pin and groove 48, 49, rods 50, and levers 52 pivoted about pins 54. Work holders 5 are pivoted in the longitudinal direction by rods 38, 42, and a lever 44, which pivots frame 7 about pins 11, in the transverse direction by rod 36, lever 31, bar 29, lever 26, pin and groove 25, 24 which pivots frame 7 about pins 6. Sequential vertical movement of frame 7, so as to maintain constant working depth, is provided by shaft 114, which drives a shaft 107 through gears 113, 112, and a chain drive 109. Eccentric rods 103, 104, on shaft 107, cause pivoting of levers 93, 94, about pins 95, 96, and followers 91, 92, on the levers co-operate with angled faces 79, 80 on members 77, 78. When plunger 64 is moved vertically by model 63, it pivots a rod 70 which moves members 77, 78 vertically, so that levers 93, 94 are pivoted by rods 103, 104. A slide 82 is moved, so as to pivot a lever 86, which pivots a lever 19 through a rod 89, lever 19 having legs 17 connected to slides 12 which pivotally support frame 7; the latter being thus moved in a vertical plane so as to automatically control the distance between the blanks and the tools.
