Abstract
1,196,679. Knitting-machines. B. FANINGER. 27 Nov., 1967, No. 53794/67. Heading DIC. A guide bar shogging mechanism for a Raschel machine comprises a reciprocating drive operated synchronously with tihe machine and connected by linkage to the guide bar I via a pattern controlled clutch. In the embodiment shown an oscillating pivoted lever 14 reciprocates the drive rod 20, which is connected to rod 23 via slipping clutch 24. Racks 29, 30 connected to the rod 23 are selectively engageable with gear 36 so that the guide bar may be moved in either direction, via a gear 39 and rack 40. Axially movable stops 67 in the path of the clutch are selectively lowered electro magnetically at the dictates of a pattern tape or film so that the guide bar is arrested at a predetermined limit, while the rod 20 slides in the clutch. The clutch is entrained on the return stroke of rod 20 and returns rod 23 to its zero position. Racks 29, 30 however are lifted clear of gear 36 by springs 60, 61 so that the guide 'bar can traverse the width of the machine if required. Each guide bar is shogged by a similar mechanism operated by the common lever 14, when the machine gauge is changed the set of stops is replaced by a set whose spacing corresponds to the new gauge. In an alternative rack 40 is toothed on either side and driven by levers driven by rod 23 and selectively connected to the rack.
