Abstract
1,196,545. Knife-handles. H. HERDER, [trading as DIOGENES-WERK HERDER & SOHN]. 20 June, 1968 [30 Jan., 1968], No. 29549/68. Headings B4K and B4B. A household knife comprises a handle 1 provided at its end adjacent the blade 2 with one or more elements 3 which can be pivoted from a basic position (Fig. 1, not shown) in which they overlie a portion of the handle to an extended position (Fig. 2, not shown) in which they extend transverse to the longitudinal axis of the knife. The elements, which may be of plastics material, have a slot 4 to accommodate the blade in the extended position of the elements, and so dimensioned as to limit the degree of pivotal movement of the elements towards the blade by abutment of the end of the slot with the blade. The handle 1, which may also be of plastics, may be ribbed or grooved as at 5. The blade 2 may be provided with a standard grind, a hollow shaft grind, a finelytoothed grind, with toothing for cutting deepfrozen material, or two-edged combinations of these.
