Abstract

1,196,039. Bearings. LEAR SIEGLER Inc. 28 Nov., 1967, No. 54174/67. Heading F2A. [Also in Division B3] A bearing assembly is made by placing an annular race blank 22<SP>1</SP> having a cylindrical inner surface and a circumferential groove in its outer surface around an inner bearing element 18 and deforming the blank 22<SP>1</SP> to form a cylindrical outer surface and an inner surface of concave curvature in mating conformity with the outer surface of the element 18. The race blank 22<SP>1</SP> having a layer of low friction material 28 on its inner surface and a spherical ball 18 are mounted on a pin 50 of a ram 52 which is forced through a swaging die 42 to form the assembly, Fig. 4. The assembly may be mounted in a rod end coupling the leading and trailing corners of the race 22 being machined, and is retained in position by deforming the edges (30) (Fig. 2, not shown) of the portion (12) of the coupling.
