Abstract

1,001,756. Connecting-rods. HYDROMATIK G.m.b.H. June 26, 1962 [June 27, 1961], No. 24445/62. Heading F2T. In a ball-and-socket joint between the piston 3 and the connecting rod 5 of an axial piston engine, the retaining surface 1 for the connecting rod is produced directly on the inside surface of the piston wall by inward deformation, e.g. by rolling of the wall with the ball end of the connecting rod serving as a counter support at the region of deformation, the piston being thereby provided with an external groove 4. The end 6 of the connecting rod may consist of a complete sphere, Fig. 1, or, as shown in Fig. 2, of a part-spherical section at the end face and part-spherical zone of different radius at the portion engaging the surface 1. One or more lubricating bores may be provided in the piston wall in the region between the surface 1 and the end spherical bearing surface for the connecting rod end. The piston may be made of bronze, light-metal alloy or nitrided or casehardened steel. The connecting rod may also be of casehardened or nitrided steel and in the latter case it may be nitrided together with the piston in the assembled state.
