Abstract

1,195,627. Battery boxes. GENERAL ELECTRIC & ENGLISH ELECTRIC COMPANIES Ltd. 27 March, 1969, No. 17524/68. Heading H1B. In a battery box of the kind comprising intercell partitions 2 and a lid 3 provided with a downturned rim 4 arranged to be sealed around its edge to the edge of the casing and with transverse partitions arranged to register with and be sealed to the tops of the housing partitions, the lid has raised portions 6, 7 extending along it on opposite sides of the filling apertures 8 and spaced from the sides of the lid, and at least the outer and upper surfaces of each of the raised portions are interrupted by a recess 10, which recesses are aligned transversely across the lid to accommodate a co-operating bridging piece 13 interconnecting a pair of angle iron strips 12 clamped over opposite upper side edges of the box. The projecting ends of the bridging piece are apertured at 17 so as to fit over threaded rods or studs which may be secured to a car body thus clamping the battery in position. The recess may extend fully or partially across the raised surface. A single strip of angle iron may also be used for clamping and fits over the upper edge of one side of the battery. It is secured to the car body by threaded rods which pass through the angle iron one at each end of the battery and are provided with clamping nuts.
