Abstract
1,195,527. Removing dust in industrial processes. ELI LILLY & CO. 25 Feb., 1969 [26 Feb., 1968], No. 9985/69. Heading F4X. [Also in Division B2] For removing dust from tablets being coated in a rotary tumbling drums the latter is formed with an apertured periphery, and a flexible conduit has a first end in sliding contact with a predetermined portion of the drum periphery over which a bed of tablets tumbles and a second end coupled to air-exhausting means. A drum 11, having a charging aperture 16 at one end, is rotated clockwise at 10 to 30 r.p.m. about a horizontal axis by drive means 13, and the peripheral portion 20 of the drum is formed with a series of apertures. A suction inlet 21, connected to a flexible suction pipe 27, is provided with rollers 25 making contact with the lower leading quadrant of portion 20 where a bed 17 of tablets being coated tumbles in operation. Inlet 21 is detachably pivoted to pivoted arms 29 rigid with an arm 32 connected to the piston rod 34 of an air cylinder 31, pressurization of which thereby biases inlet 21 to a first position against drum 11 to extract the dust from bed 17. On exhaustion of cylinder 31, inlet 21 drops to a second position in which it may be detached from arms 29. The lower portion of drum 11 enters a trough 36, which, after completion of a coating operation and the removal of inlet 21 from arms 29, is filled with liquid for cleansing drum 11 when the latter is subsequently rotated.
