Abstract

1,194,970. Rotary spindle switches; contacts. PAINTON & CO. Ltd. 31 Dec., 1968, No. 61929/68. Heading H1N. In a rotary spindle actuated switch having at least one movable contact member 25, Fig. 2, wiping between a slip ring 31 and multiple fixed contacts 30, Fig. 3, each movable contact member 25 has at least two wipers 24 of different widths greater or less than the distance between the fixed contacts 30 whereby the contacts 25 may be assembled in two ways to provide either make-before-break or break-before-make at the contacts 30. The contact members 25 are bent up from a blank of sheet metal to form a split tubular end 23 for insertion in a recess 22 of central rotary bush 1. The fixed contacts 30 are mounted between castellations 11 of a base 5 and are held in position by cylindrical wall portions of a casing 6. Projections 12 on the base 5 provide for interlocking between banked Switches which may be drivingly connected by a rectangular section shaft inserted through rectangular section holes 21 in the bushes 1. In a modification each movable contact 2, Fig. 5 (part) may be of generally double "Y" form bent up to engage over pins 47 on a rotary bush 46.
