Abstract

1,194,599. Distilling hydrocarbons. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 30 Oct., 1967 [23 Feb., 1967], No. 49158/67. Heading C5E. [Also in Division B1] A distillation apparatus comprises a vertically elongated column 20, a plurality of longitudinally spaced substantially horizontal perforated partitions 13, 14 disposed within said column and dividing the same into liquidvapour contact zones, a vapour outlet conduit 19 communicating with the top of the column, at least one substantially vertical imperforate partition 12 extending upwards from the bottom of the column to a point below the vapour outlet conduit and dividing the column into at least two vertically elongated sections 21, 22, separate liquid inlet conduits 10, 11 communicating with each of the sections and separate liquid outlets 15, 16 communicating with each section below the corresponding liquid inlet. The apparatus may be used for the simultaneous distillation of hydrocarbons differing in composition or amount of impurities, e.g. paraffinie and naphthenic or high-sulphur and low-sulphur where a common overhead fraction but separate bottom fractions are wanted. Side cuts may be taken above the level of the vertical partition, e.g. by conduits 17, 18.
