[Also in Division B8] An appliance for storing and applying shoe polish comprises a polish container 1 whose open end is closed by a member 2, said member 2 comprising a portion 4 containing a porous pad 6 secured to a plunger member 5 which is movable to displace the pad 6 from a retracted position, Fig. 1, to a working position where the pad protrudes from the closure member 2. As described, pins 9 on the plunger 5 slide in slots 7 in an upper portion 3 of closure member 2, and are displaced by the user's fingers. To seal the contents of receptacle 1, sealing surfaces 5a, 5b are provided. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3, the top end of upper portion 10 is closed by a slidable cap 11 integral with plunger 5; feathers 12 on plunger 5 and keyways 13 on member 10 prevent rotation of plunger 5 until the latter is completely retracted; rotation then locks it in that position. In a third embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), rotation of a cap (19) integral with a member (14) causes a plunger (18) to move axially, by virtue of an engagement between bosses (20) with a helical slot (15). In a further embodiment (not shown), the plunger 5 and closure member 3 have corresponding outer and inner screw threads whereby the former can be displaced axially by rotating it.
