Abstract

1,194,371. Mooring floating structures. J. E. G. PALMER. 21 Feb., 1968 [21 Feb., 1967], No. 8312/67. Heading B7S. A floating platform 20 roughly ship shape in plan view has a bow and a stern and built-in means whereby it may be both anchored to the sea-bed and slewed so that the heading of the platform may be varied with changing wind, wave or current. The means for anchoring the platform comprises one or more connection points C1, C3 located below the water-line from which mooring chains M1, M3 extend radially from axis 28 inboard of the platform. The means for slewing the platform is poweroperated and comprises at least two reception points H1, H3 located below the water-line adjacent the bow and the stern respectively from which slewing cables 51, 53 may extend to port and starboard of the platform. The embodiment described has four mooring chains M1-M4 loaded with weights W at intervals along their lengths and has four slewing cables S1-S4.
