Abstract

1,194,350. 1,1<SP>1</SP> - Carbonyl - bis - (imidazoles). TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 27 Dec., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 58740/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] 1,1<SP>1</SP>-Carbonyl-bis-(imidazoles) of the formula where each R is H or hydrocarbyl, is used as co-catalysts in the anionic polymerization of lactams (see Division C3). The preparation of the compounds from phosgene and the appropriate imidazole is described. Exemplified compounds are those wherein R is H and/or C 1 , C 2 , C 4 , C 5 or C 11 alkyl or phenyl, while comparative examples describe similar compounds wherein R is nitro, cyano or benzo.
