Water permeable soils are rendered substantially water impermeable by injecting into the soil an aqueous solution of urea, formaldehyde and Urea/formaldehyde condensation product together with a polyvinyl alcohol or polyvinyl' alcohol/urea/formaldehyde condensation product and insolubilising the mixture in situ with an acid-curing agent for urea formaldehyde resins.
